Before his work composing music for film, Sebastian Steinberg was the (upright) bassist for the New York-based alternative rock band Soul Coughing, which found modest success in the 1990s. He was also one half of the group UV Ray, which was a side project he later embarked upon with Soul Coughing's percussionist, Yuval Gabay. In his film work he has collaborated with another member of Soul Coughing, keyboardist and sampling pioneer Mark Degli Antoni.
