Blues singer/guitarist Stick McGhee was born Granville McGhee in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1917. He came from a musical family--his brother was blues guitarist Brownie McGhee--and, after serving a hitch in the US Army during World War II, he moved to New York City, where his brother Brownie was already living, and the two began playing blues clubs in the New York City area.
