Edward Lee Morgan was an American jazz trumpeter, known for helping establish the hard bop sub-genre. He famously played with John Coltrane and Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers before launching a solo career. His composition "The Sidewinder" was a crossover hit on the pop and R&B charts in 1964.
