Randy Kemner was raised in Long Beach, California, and attended U.C.L.A. as a music composition major where he studied with Roy Harris, Henri Lazaroff and Paul Chihara. While there he co-founded the first jazz band at U.C.L.A. in 1969. Randy left college to work as a nightclub pianist from 1970 to 1982.
