The jota is a genre of music and the associated dance known throughout Spain, most likely originating in Aragon. It varies by region, having a characteristic form in Aragon, Catalonia Castile, Navarra, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, La Rioja, Murcia and Eastern Andalusia.
