Shava Shava was a highly successful Punjabi band which was formed in the 1980s and split up in the 1990s. It was recognised as one of the pioneers of modern bhangra. The lead vocalist/songwriter was Nirmal Kumar Pounj, widely regarded as the best singer/songwriter of his era. Nirmal Pounj was born in a remote village in India near Ludhiana.
