Tex Williams, along with Spade Cooley and Bob Wills, was among the most popular bandleaders in the musical genre known as "western swing" in the 1940s and 1950s (although he used the nickname "Tex", he was actually from Illinois). His popularity led to Universal Pictures bringing him to Hollywood to make a series of musical western shorts in the late 1940s, and he and his band shot about a dozen of them before the series ended in 1952.
